Marc Blatstein comments that by apply the current technology of springs into shoes/sneakers and ‘OTC’ insoles a better shoegear is created. Along with following our natural (Figure III) ‘Phases of gait’ in which moves our foot moves from heel strike through toe off; here are Spring Comfort’s several components, benefits and phases: (1) Incorporated into the outsole; the spring shown in the oblong shape from the heel to just proximal to the metatarsal heads (Figures I, II, IV and V), recessed and incorporated into the outsole and when compressed it is flush with the bottom. Should more support be needed; (1a) Figure VI; multiple smaller springs (similar to a beds box spring) can be added within the larger spring should more control be needed (2) An ‘over the counter’ Insole; utilizing the current Spring Comfort would immediately allow the masses to benefit from this product (3) As globally we are all getting bigger (in the US, according to the CDC, More than one-third (34.9% or 78.6 million) of U.S. adults are obese. [Read abstract Journal of American Medicine JAMA), but want to stay healthy, Marc Blatstein feels these shoes should be available in a variety of larger widths.
Figure IV, identifies the location of the spring, following heel strike, the body’s weight is transferred laterally along the outside of the foot, and finally moves distally towards toe off. Currently there is NO material in the market that provides long lasting cushioning plus support. Sneakers are at best supposed to be good for 9-12 months, but depending on the weight of the person as well as their usage, they may only at times maintain their flexibility cushioning and support for 6 months.
This is why Dr Marc Blatstein has recommended this idea The overweight: Our population is educated & obese, but even if they wanted to attempt to walk to get healthy, they are handicapped. How: they need sneakers (shoegear) in a variety of wide widths, and currently New Balance, Spira and Brooks appear to be the only companies that supply a variety of widths. Even with their carrying larger size widths, their insoles still lose their cushioning after 6-9 months or less. These consumers cannot, for the most part afford to continually go out & purchase new pairs of shoes or insoles that often.
Solution: a) Spring Comfort’s spring-insole can be manufactured to either last a very long time, or the shoe be made modular so that only the spring component can be popped out & replaced cheaply (similar to replacing an insole). b) Orthotic Spring Comfort Foot Insole [with internal arch], made with this spring technology would provide the best of all options. The consumer could then keep their sneakers, and use our insole; with the caveat being, that the insole would work best if purchased to be used with new shoe gear. This spring insole can be made to fit shoes, work boots, sneakers, etc. 2–Medical Issues will benefit: Plantar Fascitis, Neuromas, Tendonitis, Shin Splints, Calcaneal Apophysitis, Bursitis, Knee & Hip pain, all just to mention a few 3–Any industry that has people who work on their feet will benefit: Construction, Police, Military, Fire, Nurses 4-Women’s shoegear also needs to be looked at, whether flats or heels, here too small modifications, adjustments or inserts will go a long way to giving foot relief here too.
